from Fanal to Bica da Cana

A dry and windless night but the tent is nevertheless wet in the morning. Condense.
The sun rises over a mountain into bright blue sky. The silhouettes of the ancient trees slowly take on some color and structure. A blackbird turns over the cow dung in search of breakfast.
Today we follow PR13 until it ends. It's flatter than yesterday but not completely without ascents and descents. What surprised me yesterday already, is the amount of paper tissues next to the trail. Not the type of garbage one would like to pick up and carry to a more suitable place without special equipment. I wonder whether it's low IQ or digestion problems that bother these people...
Otherwise it is nice and hot. The latter is the reason why we skip the option to make a detour to the 25 Fontes waterfall. 1,5 km downhill would be fine but then the same hill has to be climbed again. Maybe next time.
Between the end of the trail and the campsite are 5 kms of road. Not very appetizing. The map shows a path parallel to the road over a sparsely vegetated area. This seems nicer. In the beginning. Then it gets more thorny and pressing through the bushes is more and more painful. Going back is also painful. The road is 300 m ahead of us when we eventually cut ourselves free with a pocket knife. This was now a recipe how to make 3 kms out of 1 km and two hours out of 30 minutes. We spend another ten minutes picking thorns and leaves out of our clothes and backpacks. Sun is rolling down over the horizon.
A huge campsite at Bica da Cana. No other campers.
