Bog islands are fascinating places.
Not quite so easily accessible and usually with their own special ecological community. Nigula bog has five of those. Four form a line as remnants of drumlin-like heights between onetime lakes. One, Kasepeaksi, stands separately.
As the wooden path reaches only Salupeaksi, we continue following our compass and random animal trails. Huge cranberries dot the turfs. Bear prints point us towards drier places. Colonies of mushrooms on old trees. Fresh ecosystem restoration works have finished on Haavapeaksi, participated by a beaver.
